Heise Medien increases production efficiency

Released on 12. February 2020

In March 2018, Heise Medien and Xpublisher GmbH began implementing the online publishing system Xpublisher. The computer magazine "c't" has now joined the Xpublisher production portfolio.

With the introduction of Xpublisher, Heise Medien has created a media-based and clear administration of articles and assets as well as an optimized production process for its magazines. Since May 2019, ten issues of the professional IT magazine "iX" have been produced, as well as the seventh issue of "Technology Review". From February 2020, the computer magazine "c't" will be integrated into this production process. Xpublisher supports the content value chain from planning, creation and editing to layout and the finished publication. Thanks to integrated page planning, the bidirectional connection of Adobe InDesign and the standardization of content via XML, the production processes have been significantly simplified and largely automated.

"The fact that Heise Medien was able to increase its production efficiency so significantly in a relatively short time by using the Xpublisher editing environment was due not least to the media-neutral text creation with Xeditor and the strictly content-oriented workflow. However, an equally decisive component for this successful implementation was actually the commitment of the Heise employees and the project managers during the restructuring process. This was and still is a great collaboration," says Xpublisher CEO Matthias Kraus.

With "c't" and "iX", Heise Medien publishes two successful computer titles, the forward-looking technology magazine "Technology Review" and the multi-award winning online magazine "Telepolis". The Internet presence "heise online" is the leading medium for German-language high-tech news.

"We started our cooperation with Xpublisher in March 2018. For us, the new workflow and the conversion of our print products to Xpublisher and InDesign was a huge challenge, but thanks to the perfect support and the great teamwork with the colleagues from Xpublisher, we mastered it brilliantly. We are already benefiting from the new, simplified processes. But Xpublisher was also able to benefit from our experience," says Christine Kreye, who was responsible for the introduction of Xpublisher as project manager.
